Yippee it’s Spring!

The children really enjoyed our last topic ‘Around the World’ and were very engaged and inquisitive. We learnt about where we live to begin and then explored China, celebrating the Chinese new year with dancing and food tasting. We then moved on to Africa and took part in a fabulous African drumming workshop. As well as learning about the Arctic and Antarctica.

This half term we will be learning about ‘Amazing Animals’. This has already sparked our children’s interests as we learnt about Noah’s Ark, exploring the story, doubling the animals and creating rainbows. Our parents also joined us to make arks ready to test whether the float or sink. We will also be learning about the story ‘Little Red Hen’, ‘Monkey Puzzle’ and exploring new life linked to Easter.

 Hello Autumn!

We have had a very busy and successful term settling into Foundation Two and getting used to staying at school all day. We enjoyed learning about our first topic ‘Happily Ever After’. The children did lots of wonderful retelling using actions for the traditional tales Goldilocks and The Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood. We also practised lots of counting, number recognition and compared the size of the characters. The children created collages and printed using different materials and much more.

After half term we began our second topic ‘Let’s Celebrate’. We really enjoyed learning about Diwali, Birthdays and of course Christmas!!

We hope that everyone has a wonderful Christmas and look forward to hearing all about it in the New Year.

Our new topic will be ‘Around the World’.

Please check Class Dojo for weekly updates and messages.

Oh we’re all going to the seaside!

Our new topic this half term is all about the seaside and we kick started it today by visiting Cleethorpes! The sun came out (eventually) and we all had a wonderful time. The children enjoyed building sandcastles, creating sand art, paddling in the sea, ball games, burying each other in the sand and topped it off with a few chips and a delicious ice cream. We were very proud of the children’s excellent behaviour. Well done Foundation! A big thank you to our parent helpers :-)

Today the Foundation Unit had a gardening day as part of our topic. We would like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers who donated lots of wonderful plants, seeds, soil and tools and to the volunteers who gave up their time to help to create a wonderful vegetable patch, some sensory gardens, beautiful garden beds and the start of our exciting fairy garden. Thank you once again for all your hard work we really appreciate it.

Blast Off and Pirates Ahoy!

We have had a fantastic first few weeks back in Foundation 2! The children have really enjoyed the first part of our topic 'These are a few of our favourite things'.

During our first 2 weeks back we based our learning of space and aliens. The children really enjoyed the story 'Whatever Next' and we took our class bear to the moon too! In literacy we wrote lists of things that we would take to the moon and a recount of what Bella the bear did whilst she was there. In numeracy we practised our number recognition and counting skills, matching the correct amount of stars to the rocket numbers and ordered numbers correctly so that we could count down and blast off!  We also did a science experiment investigating how the moon got its crators and created some beautiful artwork of rockets, planets and new underpants for the aliens.

Last week we began our learning based on pirates and read the story 'A New Home for a Pirate'. The children have had lots of fun retelling this story and creating story treasure maps. In numeracy we have been using pirate themed activities to find 1 more and 1 less than numbers as well as beginning some addition. We also recieved a letter from Jed the pirate who asked us to work as pairs to build him another new home! The children have used watercolour paints to create beautiful pictures of Jed's pirate ship.

Towards the end of last week we had a very frosty morning and went out to explore. We spoke about why we get frost and brought some ice inside to see what would happen to it!

These are a few of our favourite things...

Happy New Year and welcome back! We hope that you have all had a truly magical Christmas. We are looking forward to seeing you all on Monday 4th January and can't wait to hear about your Christmas holiday news. We are also excited to begin our new topic 'These are a few of our favourite things!' This is a topic based on the children's interests, beginning with 'Aliens and Space'.

Let's Party

We have a very exciting half term ahead as we begin our new topic 'Let's Party'!  This topic is based on looking at different celebrations including bonfire night, birthdays, diwali, how other families in different cultures celebrate and then our favoutite time of the year Christmas! The children in Foundation Two will be visiting Chatsworth Farm where they will take part in a live nativity with real animals on Tuesday 15th Decemeber at 11.00am. As well as this, the children will also take part in a Christmas play with Foundation One.

Also, within this topic we will be taking part in 'Nursery Rhyme Week' (More details to follow).

We hope you all have a lovely break and we shall see you all refreshed on November 2nd 2015 8.45am

A Walk in the Woods

We have had a wonderful first half term in Foundation 2, learning about our new topic 'A Walk in the Woods'. The children had a fantastic time at Anston Stones where despite the rain we explored the woods and collected natural objects along the way. The children also investigated little 'caves' that they found. The children loved going on their very own bear hunt in the school grounds where they found a giant teddy bear hiding in a cave! We then retold the story using actions and expressions. The children were fantastic at this and made us and their parents very proud. We also based our numeracy on the bear hunt, practising positional language 'the bear is inside the dark cave'. Over the last two weeks we have been learning about the story of the Gruffalo. We have been retelling the story, practising our rhyming, printing Gruffalo faces with autumn vegetables, baking Gruffalo crumble, having Gruffalo tea parties to support adding and subtracting and much more! On Monday the children recieved a message from the Mouse asking for their help as he had lost the Gruffalo. The children were keen to help and created missing posters describing the Gruffalo.

A Walk in the Woods

The first week we will start by settling into school by reading the story 'Topsy and Tim Start School',learn the classroom rules and routines, explore the environment and make lots of new friends!
